The inspiration for what he should look like- should have suspenders. Brown/grey dirt colors.

This site exists to discredit the idea of the Victorian standing post mortem photo. Post mortem photos do exist, but none of them are stand alone.

Death, draped in a shroud, sits on a grave. Her elbow leans on an hourglass and her right hand rests on a half opened scroll where the sentence “P(???) you are, you’ll be like me” is engraved. This kind of inscription is common on graves or representations of the Trois Morts and the Trois Vifs, a legend of Death killing three debauched young men. Ivory sculpture 16th Century - 1547

Young Man with a Skull by Frans Hals. In this painting, I found that the golden section runs exactly through the upward pointing tip of left collar triangle, which is the lightest light area of painting, with a contrasting dark just above it. This line also runs along left side of face and along left thumb and hand. Conversely, when switched to right side of painting, the section runs along left side of skull.

Just guessing ... memento mori photo (??). When photography was uncommon, bereaved relatives would often have just *one* image to remember their loved ones by. Arranging for a professional photographer sometimes took longer than was desirable and some photos would include painted on eyes (clearly, from this photo, some better executed than others). The deceased were also often posed, using stands and props, as though they were still alive.

Some Pinners have this on their board as a Memento Mori. Whoever Photoshopped this image of a normal woman into this, had a sense of humor.

This is one of the most beautiful, most heartbreaking memento mori works I have ever seen. I don't know who these young men are, but the pain in the face of the living twin is an agony.
