George Lois's Kennedy cover is a very interesting picture because of they way its presented. you  have JFK's face in a magazine which is pretty good by it's self, but then you have someone doing his make up as if it was an early version of photoshop. but over its a pretty good piece overall

1962 George Lois did this mock up cover for Esquire - he wanted to use a photo of the actual 100th GI who had lost his life in Vietnam but the State Department refused so he used a snap shot of himself from the Korean War.  The war cry was "It will be over by Christmas".  Since covers had to be prepared 2 months in advance editor Harold Hayes worried they would end up with Egg on their faces - killed the cover. 12 years later the war was over with 58,000 US servicemen dead or MIA.
