I'd have to say this is my favorite "classic."
One of my very favorite books - weird I know!
One of my favorite classic books!
What can I possibly say about this book? It's one of the best stories and most well-written books ever. Bradbury, as always, relied heavily on his reader's information to fill in the gaps, and usually, I find that sloppy writing, but with this--with this story--it works; like a haunting nightmare hovering on the edge of your memory. Ah, great stories and fantastic writing make me swoon :D

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Revisted this week and glad I did. Not just to re-experience the memorable Guy Montag, but to also revisit who I was when I first read this book in high school.
One of my all time favorite books. Showing us what the future might be if we stop reading and only watch our TV....
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Perhaps the most ironic banned book situation, Fahrenheit 451 deals with the issue of censorship in a dystopian society that sends firefighters out to burn down houses discovered to have books inside. Those opposed to this book claim various reasons for banning it including profanity, portrayal of smoking and drinking, and anti-religious and anti-establishment sentiments. @Yvonne Palermo vehicle

Change of Heart-great book & really brings up some controversial topics to think about... would be great for a book club!
This was my second Jodi Picoult book, and I really liked it. This story made me think about the death penalty deeper than I ever had before. Picoult weaves an interesting tale that kept my interest and deeply touched my heart. There are so many true victims in this saga. Even though this book was a big one, I found myself not wanting it to end.
Jodi Picoult is an amazing writer. My favorite books by her are 19 minutes and The Pact (just keep the box of tissues handy...)

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Read this in Literature Class when I was a sophomore in high school. Loved it's layers of meaning.
I've read this multiple times...on my own in middle school, required for high school, and required for my American Lit class in college. A book with many merits, but I'm not intending to re-read it again anytime soon.
Read my Junior year of High school and despite the way the books was written in an older style it was really good.
This is one of the few early American novels that I actually really liked. I think that Hawthorne told a great story here.
I pinned this Scarlet Letter from the Ladies Book Club event at Joss and Main!

One of my faves of all time. I've read it at least 15 times since high school assigned reading list. (Liked it then because it was short - liked it ever since; don't really know why, but it always makes me cry.)
Of Mice and Men is a book by John Steinbeck which is challenged because of "racial slurs, profanity, and violence". I am interested in banned books, so I plan to read this one soon. It could be read in class in celebration of banned books week.
Of Mice and Men - A banned books from ALA's list - Sigh. I read this book in high-school and it still lives in my heart!
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck Just turned on the TV the other night and Turner Classic Movies was showing the 1939 Hollywood version. Since the Cardinals were in the process of losing the World Series, I kept flipping back and forth. Really well done! Faithful to the book!
Of mice and men / John Steinbeck. (Challenged for: "blasphemous" language, excessive cursing, and sexual overtones.)

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Time is the true test for something to be considered a classic. Somehow I missed reading this in high school and college. If ever there was a "modern" classic, this is it. Don't miss reading this one!

Wuthering Height, Books Movies, High School, Reading List, Favourite Book, Favorite Books, Time Favorite, Bronte
Wuthering Heights is one of my all time favorite stories. A dark tale of class warfare and love thrown away. Heathcliff at once compelling and handsome, dark and brooding.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte... This book was the catalyst for my love affair with literature. I have read this book more times than any other I own. Tragedy, love, heartbreak, and desire all wrapped up into one complex and important book. I tend to read it when the weather turns cold. Wuthering Heights feels like winter to me.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Read this recently and it turned out to be a very intriguing book. It is amazing the jealousy and revenge or overreactions most characters express. It reveals that a lot of who you are depends on how you react to the difficulties you face growing up. It is really shocking the type of malevolent behavior produced after such passion. Good read.

I was absent from school the day my class picked out their books for the 2nd semester final. The next day when I came in, there were 2 left; Watership Down, and a book about WWII. I had no clue what this book was, based on the name I figured it had something to do with subs and war. At first I was shocked, and then felt like an idiot, once I realized it's about rabbits. But having finished it, it was one of my favorite books from high school. It still sits in my collection. BEYOND worth reading.

sequel to Gone with the Wind by Alexandra Ripley. The tv movie was awful. Embarrassing. But the book was wonderful.
Alexandra Ripley -- Scarlet: The Sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind. Beautifully done sequel.
One of my all time favorite books...Have probably read this five or six times... the sequel to Gone With the Wind. Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley
A lot of mixed reviews on this one. They say Alexandra Ripley couldn't quite grasp the same writing style and qualities Margaret Mitchell gave to the characters in Gone With the Wind. However, after over 50 years, I think Ripley did a great job in providing us with a sense of closure. I don't think anyone besides Mitchell herself could have written a better sequel. I have personally deemed Scarlett one of my favorite books of all time. $0.97
