Middlesex: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club) by Jeffrey Eugenides - for the ever-growing 'to read' list....
One of my all time favorites. I listened to it on CD on my iPod and it was so good, I listened to it again a few months later.
Middlesex: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club) by Jeffrey Eugenides "I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day of January 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of l974. . . My birth certificate lists my name as Calliope Helen Stephanides. My most recent driver’s license...records my first name simply as Cal."

"What an astonishing thing a book is..." - Quote from Carl Sagan | Book Quote - Books are Magic
“What an astonishing thing a book is... but one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic." -Carl Sagan
“What an astonishing thing a book is. It’s a flat object made..." What an amazing quote!

Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides. my all time favorite book. it's a somewhat difficult read, but once you get into it, it's absolutely amazing.
Already have a copy of this book. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides - It's a Pulitzer Prize winning book and an Oprah book club selection.
Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides Compulsively readable, Eugenides’s novel tells many stories, but the most memorable of these is that of Cal, who tells us that he was born twice: “first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day of January 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of l974.” Whether or not you’ve had any remotely similar experience, Cal’s struggles with sexuality, identity, and loyalty to family are likely to hit home.

Stephen King Book, Book Club, Awesome Book, Time Travel, Favorite Books, Dust Cover, Stephen Kings
A new novel by Stephen King about the Kennedy assassination, “11/22/63,” has an intricate book jacket and, unusual for fiction, photographs inside ---- Add to the list Perhaps ???
Stephen King writes great time travel fiction (inspired by "Time and Again") Awesome book...not your "normal" Stephen King book....
Stephen King ~ 11/22/63 This may be my third most favorite book of all time!! Amazing story, absolutely perfect ending!!
11/22/63 - our book clubs next book - nervous about reading a Stephen King book - but i have heard great things about this one!
My first and only Stephen King book. Long but a fascinating premise and alternative reality. A good Audible.com listen too. 11/22/63 - Stephen King
"With 11/22/63, Stephen King has once again affirmed his place at the pinnacle of American storytellers, and he does it with a story that’s as much about America as it is about the intrigues of time travel. This is a towering, masterful book told by a towering American master, and it is not to be missed."
11/22/63 - This was the first of my recent series of Stephen King novels. I don't want to call it my favorite - my son would yell at me. But it is way up there, and is easily one of the best treatments of time travel out there. I still think Asimov's "End of Eternity" is still the best, but he's in good company with this volume!
11/22/63: A Novel by Stephen King My first Stephen King book because I'm not into horror. This one isn't thought. It's part history and part time travel. It's also very long, but I never considered not finishing. You'll want to keep reading.
11/22/63.... A different kind of Stephen King book. I love time travel!

Cutting for Stone, just finished this book and thought it was so well written! A page turner, add to your must read list!
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese This is an great saga spanning the lives of twin brothers and their quasi-family. This is one of my favorite books because Verghese skillfully ties details together throughout different parts of the book. It enthralled me for days. Whenever I put it down, I was scheming how to get back to it.
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. This is the next choice in our book club - chosen by Susanna.
Cutting for Stone-Amazing book! If you have even been to Ethiopia, you will love the story, history and characters. If you have not been to Ethiopia, you will still love the story and the story teller. brilliantly written... one of the most captivating books I've read in a long time.
Cutting for Stone - Everyone in book club loved this book- long, but it just kept getting better!
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese -- Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon. Orphaned by their mother’s death and their father’s disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics, that will tear them apart. #books #reading

whether greg mortenson is a liar or not, the book is worth reading. not really well written but... the place and the people, the needs and the description of how westerners are trying to help make the book worth reading. i of course read everything from this part of the world. totally support the idea of education & training vs. foreginers coming in with money and free stuff... Longterm results can just be seen if people own the process and are a part of changing their lives themselves...
Three Cups of Tea. Book Club selection. Inspiring and worth reading.

Book Review: Wonder by R.J. Palacio- def reading this as a read aloud at the beginning of the year...to all you teachers out there its a MUST HAVE!
Wonder by R. J. Palacio (December 2013 - Deb/Stacy) This HAS TO BE my FAVORITE book in YEARS! Every person on the planet should HAVE TO read this book. So many life lessons in it for children AND adults! Beautifully written...you'll laugh, cry, and get pissed off all in one sitting! ... this blog includes an amazing visual and musical resource to use with the read aloud
Wonder, the new young adult novel by R.J. Palacio, would be the perfect book to read aloud to a 5th grade class as a way to reflect on topics such as kindness and inclusion, meanness and exclusion.
September Book Review: Wonder is a great book to read aloud to older elementary students or middle school students. Want to read
Whatever your age, whoever you are, if you read NO other book this year, read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. "to read" list - mom's church book club is reading this now
"Wonder" - "Follows the life of Auggie Pullman, a 5th-grade boy born with a severe facial deformity who is about to enter a mainstream school for the first time. Told from the point of view of Auggie himself, as well as his sister and his friends, this touching story shows how we all struggle with acceptance and that kindness makes all the difference. With short chapters and lots of humor, this book is easy to recommend & hard to put down." -- Read for book club.

One of my all-time favourites.. I think my Dad told me he's read it 5+ times. It's about an evangelical man from the South who takes his wife and three girls to "save" the people of the Congo. Each chapter is written from a different family member's point of view. A must read. It will change you.
