This offers the kiddos lots of writing topics. It would be good to place in a writing folder or in the writing center.

    Language Arts: Writing Ideas

  • Madeline Large

This colorful poster of writing ideas perfectly depicts what was described in Chapter 5 of Fletcher and Portalupi. During the 30-40 minute writing time of a Writer's Workshop, there will inevitably be at least one student with a blank paper who can't think of a single thing to write about. This poster provides those students with great writing ideas and topics. It will help students to recall memories they have about birthdays, vacations, friends, animals, recess, boo-boos, and many more that they can then turn into stories, poems, or songs. Fletcher and Portalupi mention several questions to ask students to help them discover writing topics, like whether or not they play sports, what (if anything) do they collect, if they have ever been to the hospital, etc. Posters such as this can serve as a springboard to help students generate topics, especially if they are stuck. Depending on it's size, this poster could be displayed in the Writer's Workshop center or placed in each student's Writing folder, so that they can refer to it at any time. Of course, not all students will need to use a paper like this, but it is very helpful for those who do need it. I will certainly use something like this in my classroom.

Love this! Seems a bit young, but I think it is good for some upper grades. Even has student copy in google doc.

Fletcher talks about how creating characters with realistic characteristics is important. This pin I believe it's just perfect, it describes the different point Fletcher described in the text. We have to imagine the facial expressions, how they talk, how they feel and even put a name that goes along with the characteristics of your character.

This pack has everything you need for an organized, effective, and motivating Work on Writing center/choice time for your students! Perfect for the daily five! I also like how she has used folders on the bulletin board- one side explains the center, the other side has the materials you need to complete that center. Clever!

Good to glue on front flap of writing folder or post it at your writing center! I would want to change the wording for high schoolers but I like the idea!

Love the idea of putting examples of different types of writing. Must find space for a writing center.
