Doris Sams This undated photo taken circa 1950-53 shows Doris Sams, a leading player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, during her playing days with the Kalamazoo Lassies. Sams, a fast-pitch player from Knoxville, Tenn., who helped inspire the movie "A League of Their Own," died June 28 at the age of 85. Sams was a five-time All-Star during her eight-year pro career, according to the league's website.
