Great New Year's idea: Start the year with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. Then, on New Years Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. Good way to keep things in perspective.
I love this as a chore chart incentive - perhaps there should be must do chores that are free! Once these are done they can do extras off the list for pocket money? Or, now that I think about it - paying for all of the chores is not that bad an idea.

Sparkling Tooth Fairy money with glitter hairspray. It's the little things :) Coco is nonstop tooth fairy talk. Couple glitter money with a teeny tiny letter from the tooth fairy and she will be through the moon. She has a ways to go though.
Give a Christmas Jar or Anonymous Money Jar. Have family put money in mason jar throughout year. At Christmas time, choose someone to bless (anonymously). "On Christmas Eve, deliver by ring and run. and enjoy warm fuzzies. What a beautiful idea!
