The Urfa Man, believed to be eleven thousand years old, is the oldest known life-sized human sculpture. Discovered in the nineteen-nineties in downtown Urfa, Turkey, it now resides in the Sanliurfa Museum.

Over 2,000 years ago, the tomb of Antiochus I was built up here at 7,000ft, alongside large stone incarnations of various Persian and Greek gods and animals.

One of the oldest known statues at 13,500 year old. “Balıklıgöl Statue” in the Urfa Museum is a two-meter high statue of a male, discovered in Balıklıgöl, Turkey in 1993. The statue is made of limestone and the eyes are carved out of obsidian.

The beauty and terror of the greatest of Sumerian goddesses comes through in this ancient statue. Inanna/Ishtar was at once lovely and terrible, seducing many great men and then killing them. Her unearthly white skin and glowing red eyes warn those who might answer her as she beckons with her right hand.

La Dama de Baza. Goddess seated on winged throne with lion-footed legs. She holds a blue-painted dove in her left hand. Strong Phoenician influences have led some to suggest that she is the goddess Tanit. She was found in a deep funerary chamber in the Cerro del Santuario, a burial ground.
