The Central Alabama (formerly Birmingham Area) Council was founded by Tish Spaulding Oden in 1959 and received its national charter in 1964. Although started as an all-girl club program, this council very early on developed response programs needed in the local communities. Because we were serving so many boys, while the official name was still “Camp Fire Girls,” we were known locally as “Camp Fire Youth”.
