On April 27, 1977, two 747's collide on the single runway at the Tenerife airport. Delayed by fog, the KLM pilot decides he has waited long enough and starts down the runway. Only when it is too late does he realize there is a Pan Am 747 also taxiing for take-off. He tries to fly over the Pan Am plane but rips into it causing a massive explosion. The KLM struggles to take off, but explodes at the end of the runway. 583 killed, 61 survivors in the worst accident in aviation history.
