This is fine in small amounts. The real problem is the bleach. It isn't as healthy of course because the bleach in it kills some of the bacteria needed for healthy compost.
Thermal paper has BPA in it, so don't use receipts for composting.
Been doing this for years, works well for me!

That's loose quarter-minus gravel -- no tar (?) or anything.
