Mom's Meat Loaf: ground beef, eggs, milk, cracker crumbs, onion & sage - plus ketchup, worcestershire & brown sugar to top. The latter (topping) really makes this recipe stand out. I cut the recipe in half to feed three people and my father (who normally hates meat loaf) actually complimented it and ate three servings. Even my picky four year-old ate it, although he was more interested in his corn and baked mashed potatoes. I'll definitely make this again! Made 9/24/14 - RM

1998 Taste of Home Mom's Meatloaf This is the best meatloaf recipe that you'll ever taste. Everyone that I've given the recipe to says the same thing. I never even liked meatloaf till I tried this one. You don't need to change a thing. It's wonderful just the way it is! Switch out brown sugar for a sugarfree sweetener for low carb

Would not use ketchup but a marinara or spaghetti sauce such as Prego and some boxed stuffing mix..two cups at least and to get veggies in for the kids finely shredded carrots in place of brown sugar..not good for diabetics..too sweet for me can also add finely shredded peppers..makes a very tasty meatloaf with veggies for the kids.

Thanks for all of the good suggestions. I tried making the meatloaf the other night and used half a cup of brown sugar with catsup and to us was still too sweet. The next time I will try the shredded carrots and shredded peppers.

I have a major sweet tooth so I didn't find 1/2 cup of brown sugar too much but to each his own. I'll never need another meatloaf recipe but I may try it with green peppers next time because everything is better with green peppers! hehe
