BOSTON LIGHTHOUSE (MASSACHUSETTS) ~ The Boston Lighthouse was built in 1716, sixty years before the Revolutionary War and was the first lighthouse to be built in the colonies. Complaints were received from mariners about the dangerous shoals peppering the Boston harbor, causing numerous ship wrecks. Shipping companies threatened to cease sending their ships into Boston Harbor because of this risk, until the first lighthouse was finally built in 1716.
