I'm not big on gallery walls, but I like this idea. Make it a small smattering over a hall table/entryway bench, and fill in spaces with small items/letters instead of just a bunch of similarly-sized frames.

the profusion of color adds drama to this very masculine room . while it is a dramatic color, it does not dominate, but acts as a foil presenting the books and art to the viewer. The frames and shelves seem to disappear against the wall so as not to distract the eye from the objects in or on them
