"In 1965 Jack and Farzaneh Guillebeaux fell in love in Asheville, North Carolina where it was illegal to marry intershade. So they decided to drive 500 miles north to Wilmette, Ill. and wed in the Baha'i Temple which encourages intra-racial marriages to promote human amity. The wedding went forward under a bomb threat. " Just by seeing an [inter-shade] couple it tends to start erasing that phobia,” Farzaneh said. Their silver anniversary earned an apology from the Asheville government in 1990."
