    Phare de la Vieille One of the most famous French lighthouses, this tower is built on a rock that half way from mainland to Île-de-Sein. In big sea storms, waves crash against the lighthouse and seem to swallow it - but La Vieille always keeps working.

    The Shot: The lighthouse at Pigeon Point is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States at 115 feet tall and is approximately 50 miles south of San Francisco along a rugged stretch of coast in San Mateo County. Saturday night was the 138th anniversary lighting of its first-order Fresnel lens which is comprised of 1,008 prisms. This lens is massive, standing 16 feet tall and 6 feet in diameter while weighing 8,000 lbs.

    Chebucto Head Lighthouse (Chebucto Head, Nova Scotia) - lighthouse in photo built in 1967. Chebucto Head has had four lighthouses. The first was established in 1872 with the second put in place in 1928. Both are no longer standing. The third lighthouse was built in 1940 and is also no longer standing. The fourth was built in 1967 (pictured in photo). This photo was taken in 2003 and includes the keepers house which was destroyed by fire in 2004. The keepers house has not been rebuilt.

    Sherwood Point Lighthouse Sherwood Point Lighthouse is one of nine lighthouses that can be found in Door County, WI. It is located near Sturgeon Bay, WI, and marks the entrance to the west end of the Sturgeon Bay ship canal that connects the waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay. It began operation in the 1880's, and is now under the control of the United States Coast Guard and is not open to the public
