The Beach Boys were the first to embrace the "surfer sound." They became very popular in the early 60s and remained popular for many years to come. The family affair used vocal harminization to define their sound and created a niche in the music industry that few artists tried experimenting with.

The Beach Boys - Formed in 1961 by the Wilson brothers, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. They were by no doubt the most popular group for "surf" music. The Beach Boys established themselves with songs of their own creation at a time dominated by artists who recorded songs provided by professional songwriters. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

The Beach Boys's harmonizing vocals and popular songs helped to define a new genre of music- surf rock. Surf rock began in southern California as a type of dance that was mostly instrumental.

The Beach Boys: Tracks like "Don't Worry Baby" and "God Only Knows" pretty much solidify Brian Wilson's legendary song writing talent.

Brian was competing with the Beatles when he did this. He received a call after it was released. The caller said, "That's the greatest rock album ever." It was McCartney.

It's strange to think that The Beatles were once a boy band. Their 1964 performance on The Ed Sullivan Show catapulted them to fame. By early 1965, when this photograph was taken, The Beatles were an international phenomenon.
