Pickle Springs, National Natural Landmark, Ste. Genevieve Co., Missouri. Often cited as being the best short hike in the state. The sandstone rock here has eroded to form various geological features. The cool box canyons, some of which never receive direct sunlight, harbor many plant and animal species which are glacial relicts. One, a crustacean known as an ampiphod, lives nowhere else. (The area is named after its first owner, Wm. Picklel, who emigrated from England in 1842.)
