Miss Gladis M. - 1893- William Holman Hunt (English, 1827–1910). Oil on panel. Hunt entered the Royal Academy art schools in 1844. He formed the Pre-Raphaelite movement with poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. With John Everett Millais they sought to revitalise art by emphasising the detailed observation of the natural world with a devotion to truth. This quasi-religious approach was influenced by medieval art.
