Cool art installation! "Artist Alicia Martin's latest exhibit seems to defy gravity: More than 5,000 books appear to pour out of windows around Spain, creating quite a spectacle for passers-by. The series, called Biografias, is in its third installation, most recently at Madrid's Casa de America."
The Scanner by Matej Kren,an installation at the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna, is a tower made of thousands of thin books. Inside is a tunnel lined with mirrors creating the illusion of an infinite number of books.
The Book Surgeon -Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed. Dettmer manipulates the pages and spines to form the shape of his sculptures. He also folds, bends, rolls, and stacks multiple books to create completely original sculptural forms.
Brazilian artist Henrique Oliveira’s incredible installations look like giant overgrown tumors or roots that are slowly taking over the spaces they inhabit breaking through doors, walls, floors, and ceilings. Created out of splintered and discarded plywood Oliveira’s creations look like three dimensional wooden patchwork quilts that are taking over every nook and cranny they can, never stopping to ask for permission or directions.(via collabcubed)
