This is really, really good. I was surprised by how many people and events I'd never heard about before. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of Germany leading up to WWII, but I clearly did not. This is a must read for anyone interested in the history of Nazi Germany. I love all of Kate Morton's novels but this one is my favorite. She writes mystery novels that rely heavily on flashing forward and back in time in the UK. They are all slightly Gothic, painstakingly plotted, and romantic to some degree. I highly recommend them to Anglophiles and mystery/romance lovers everywhere.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides ~ A wonderful book on so many levels: a family saga about three generations of the Stephanides family, it also explores gender identity through the experiences of granddaughter Calliope, who has a condition known as 5-alpha-reductase deficiency.
