    Dominique Dawes, aka 'Awesome Dawesome', retired Olympic gymnast. Known for being a 3x Olympian & a World Championships silver medalist, she was a member of the gold-medal winning "Magnificent Seven" at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She is the 1st African-American woman to win an individual Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics, the 1st black person to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics, 1 of only 3 female American gymnasts, to compete in 3 Olympics and 1st to be part of 3 Olympic medal-winning teams.

    Today in Black History, 11/20/2013 - Dominique Margaux Dawes was first African American female to win an Olympic Gold medal in gymnastics.
