    Oprah's Favorite Teacher Comes to the Show Oprah's love for teachers is no secret, and in 1989, she was reunited with two teachers who changed her life. Mrs. Mary Alice Duncan, Oprah's fourth-grade teacher at Wharton Elementary in Nashville, was first on the list. "I ran home the first day of the fourth grade to tell my dad that I had the best teacher that anybody could ever have. Her name was Mrs. Duncan," Oprah said. "I wanted to be a fourth grade teacher because of Mrs. Duncan."
