First woman to enlist, 1917, yeoman in US Navy

On March 1917 the Navy authorized the enlistment of women. Designated as "Yeoman" they unofficially became known as "Yeomanettes.” On 21 March YNC Loretta Perfectus Walsh became the first female Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy.
