DIY built in bookcases butcher block- used upper cabinets for bases. 12 inches deep. can still have a table in front of it. Would this work for breakfast room? Have larger shelves open and then upper cabinet doors for narrower shelves at top?

She used unfinished wall cupboards on the bottom, then built the shelving from 1 x 12. Might be a solution for cupboards in the new corner of the kitchen.

Notice how she doesn’t just stick to books, she adds art and natural objects too.  And don’t you love that reading chair?

To create dividers use extra Billy shelves for $5 at IKEA trimmed with miter saw to fit vertically between the shelves. They’re secured with a few brad nails. The result was a more custom looking bookshelf with division every other shelf. The backs are painted in Glidden’s ‘Regal Wave’ a dark moody blue.
