    3) Underground homes - New Zealand hobbit houses...

Matamata, New Zealand. These are the hobbit houses from The Lord of the Rings. The sheep have taken up residency in 'em. :)

The Hobbit scenes from Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy were filmed on a hillside lot in Matamata, New Zealand. Now the little Hobbit Homes have become a tourist attraction, but also they became homes for some of the sheep from a nearby farm. The interiors of these white structures were never finished because the scenes shot inside were actually filmed on a studio set.--I'll buy this and turn them into real houses. I'd love to live in a hobbit hole

The Catlins (New Zealand). 'Even for many New Zealanders the rugged Catlins coast is unknown territory. Avoid the speedy but functional inland route linking Dunedin and Invercargill, and traverse through the Catlins’ more diverse and interesting procession of isolated bays and coves, sweeping coastal scenery, and opportunities to meet the locals and the local wildlife.' www.lonelyplanet....
