Here are some fine examples of intricately carved beams that feature in various Chinese temples and houses. These images depict Chinese dragons and other mythological images, that were used both as a display of wealth, but also to protect the building from ancient evil spirits. They are usually carved from dense hardwoods such as teak and cherry, stained in a dark colour.

These are unclose beams that have the different animals engraved as well as the intricate swirls and designs. The beams are expected to be included in a lot of Chinese homes and buildings.
