Undine (detail) by Chauncey Ives. Reminds me of Robert Herrick's poem, Upon Julia's Clothes (one of my favorites): Whenas in silks my Julia goes, then, then, methinks, how sweetly flows that liquefaction of her clothes. Next, when I cast mine eyes and see that brave vibration each way free, oh, how that glittering taketh me!

Pluto and Proserpina, By Bernini. Persephone is the goddess of the underworld in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Persephone was such a beautiful girl that everyone loved her, even Hades wanted her for himself. When she was a little girl, she and the Oceanids were collecting flowers on the plain of Enna, when suddenly the earth opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. None but Zeus had noticed it.Borghese. #sculpture #italian
