Emmulate Chihuly's glass art for children! Mix liquid watercolor with Elmers (for a more translucsent) or with Mod Podge (for a more transparent) for brilliant color. Use plain hair dryers to stiffen the plastic into the signature spirals in his chandeliers. Use Clear-Lay plastic film (Blick) to create the spires and water bottles for the spirals, also chicken wire, c-7 Christmas lights, and duct tape (for the spires' bases). We were a huge hit at the TAEA art teachers convention in San Antonio!
As part of our recent study of Mesopotamia, we made our own clay cylinder seals. These ancient signatures were cylinder-shaped stamps that bore the marks of an individual and were pressed into the freshly made bricks of houses and temples. Once dry and hardened, we rolled our seals onto soft clay so the images carved in the seal appeared in relief
