Tree of Knowledge (top photo): When students read a non-fiction book, they wrote one fact on a leaf (middle photo). When the season changed, I took down the leaves and started the process again. At the end of the year, I gave the students all the leaves they filled out and they created their own personal tree of knowledge (bottom photo). They have a keepsake of facts they collected from the year.

Every year the middle school have a "battle of the books" competition. The reading list changes from year to year.
