Science Saturday – Eggstreme Science

"Cool science experiment for kids! Dissolve egg shell off with vinegar and it will become a naked egg that can bounce. how fun!" Forget that! Cool science experiment for Ben!

The Naked Egg Science Project - Stick egg in vinegar (enough to cover egg completely), seal and put in fridge for 3 to 5 days. Stir once every day. It bounces when done! But be careful, it can still pop. Soak it in corn syrup to make it shrivel up, then stick in water with food coloring. Osmosis will fill the egg back up but this time with the coloring on the inside! Fun for kids and grown-ups!

Cool Egg Experiment - get egg yolk out without cracking the egg (takes 4-5days). Doing this around Easter - what fun to observe!

How to dissolve an eggshell

This is an awesome website for kids' science experiments. How to make an egg shell disappear without touching it. Lots of fun science experiments on this website, along with explanations for the kiddos.

How to make an egg shell disappear? Place the raw egg in the container, then cover with vinegar. You will notice almost right away the egg starts to bubble(that is the chemical reaction that is happening) We left it in the vinegar for 2 days and then took it out and washed it off, it was clear. Then we used it for another experiment(see below).

Soak a raw egg in a cup of vinegar for three days and watch how the egg’s shell disappears! This experiment is a great introduction to the acid-base reactions between acidic vinegar and basic calcium (Science Olympiad Bottle Rocket)
