Love this - have been reading Lisa See's books - love ancient Asian culture but what a hard/restrictive life girls/women had! Can you imagine having your feet bound?

These Sake barrels appear to be made from a hardened straw like material. Something similar in form might lend contrast to the tall, repetitive rectangular prisms in my set design.

Japanese wedding outfit: photo by Sgt.Steiner. Locals in Misawa, Japan, dressed me up in a similar wedding kimono and I still have the picture, complete with white face makeup!
