The Shalom journal was started during the art journaling workshop series that ended last week. For about two weeks I kept running into the word “shalom”. It seemed to be everywhere. I knew it meant peace and a greeting in Hebrew and more, but I wasn’t sure what the “more” was. Then at book club a woman said, “I really should do a word study on shalom.” And that was the final nudge to do a word study and make it visual in one of my art journals. “Working in my collage journal has given me the courage to acknowledge those harder days with all my anxieties and fears, but also my hopes and dreams. It took me two years to complete this journal, and I can see how much I have grown as I flip through its pages.” — Dianne L. Fago | Art Journaling

This year I have a shape of the year as well as a word. My word is AIM and my shape, concentric circle. The circle is filled with loads of symbolic meaning to me, and is encompassed by the word “shalom.” It is more than peace. It is wholeness, completeness in every way. As this art journal developed it became clear that the attributes I list are all qualities to aim for.   I have also been inspired by Mary Brack’s blog post “Collage Therapy” at http://mewithmyheadintheclouds.blogspot.com…

"Lakeside Hideaway" was released in March 1999 and was inspired by Mount Hood in Oregon. It features a secluded cabin along a peaceful lake in a majestic mountain area – a perfect place for someone to rest and relax. Thom said, “This painting suggests in my heart a profound truth; I had the sense as I worked that the canvas painted itself. Perhaps our lives should be lived with just such selfless ease and grace.” Learn more: https://thomaskinkade.com/art/lakeside-hideaway/?ref=13

Peace Be With You - I created the background with inks on shaving cream. The page smells great! Next I added an off-set pattern with a stencil. Then came modelling paste, real pansies, images, paper bits, and stamping. See more on my Facebook page at OHara Art Journals.
