Kids went barefoot all summer, not because we were poor, but because we liked it. Even if it wasn't bath night, we'd sit on the edge of the tub & wash our dirty feet in a bucket before bed. The bottoms were so calloused, we could run on gravel. Come fall, we were fitted for new sneakers & leather school shoes at Glick's in Williamsport or Leeser's in Milton.
