Owls, Foil, Glue, and Shoe Polish --(original artwork by David, grade 5) Art Club, Grades 1-6 This is one of my all-time favorite projects. This time around, our art is of owls and leaves. We first planned our compositions, paying attention to all of the positive and negative spaces. We wanted to be sure they were all interesting. Here are some step-by-step instructions. take a coloring page, trace picture with glue, let dry and cover with tin foil, then paint shoe polish on it for a unique look!

MAKE SOME FANTASTIC ART WORK BY TRACING OVER A COLORING BOOK PAGE WITH GLUE, COVERING IT WITH FOIL AND THEN SPONGING ON AND WIPING OFF SHOE POLISH. VERY COOL!

Must try this technique. Glue makes the design, aluminum foil over top, shoe polish over that to accentuate the design.

Interesting use of stripes. Strips are same size, but by allowing the white part of the strip to be on the outside, the squares appear to be overlapping. Do this in Ginger Bliss and other AB stripes.

What makes this work, besides the tight color relationship in the blues, is the outlining of the multiple layers. This could be a handsome project for very young children if you control the palette when they create the papers.

I love the use of the vintage dictionary as a background to this print. Can you see the two little blue birds in this amazing tree?
