The Azawakh is considered a full member of the family, entrusted with protecting the encampment and flocks from invaders. The Saluki. Also known as the Persian Greyhound & Royal Dog of Egypt, the Saluki is one of the oldest known breeds of domesticated dog with Middle Eastern evidence dating back to 8000-10,000 B.C. Salukis are "sight" hounds, which means they hunt by sight, run the quarry down, catch it, and kill or retrieve it. An independent & aloof breed, they are also intelligent & affectionate. Because of their gentle & sensitive nature training should be conducted with patience, not harshly.
