Basil Vinaigrette

Basil Vinaigrette Recipe Add to shopping list INGREDIENTS 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 shallot, chopped 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar 1/2 cup roughly chopped basil leaves 1/4 cup white wine vinegar 3/4 cup olive oil

"Drunken Spaghetti: an Italian Favorite." Boil 3 oz. spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Drain the pasta & set aside. Pour 1 cup red wine into the same pot, bring to a boil, & add the drained pasta. Cook until the pasta absorbs most of the wine (2-4 minutes.) Drain the pasta again, then toss with olive oil. Serve with olives, capers, & shaved parmesan.

Festively framed by lemon and olive branches studded with giant pink peonies, a calligraphed chalkboard sign welcomed guests, who had come from Sweden, Poland, and different parts of Austria.
