Tenleytown-AU is the last station wholly within the District of Columbia, before the Red Line enters Montgomery County, Maryland. As its name indicates, Tenleytown-AU serves the neighborhood of Tenleytown, and American University, part of which is situated at Tenley Circle and whose main campus is located roughly one mile south of the actual station. The University operates a shuttle bus between main campus, the Washington College of Law, and the station. Service began on August 25, 1984.
