  • Wendy Tomoyasu

While Drake designs his rooms to create immediate visual impact, he also ensures there are groupings of smaller items – many with an interesting personal history. In the master bedroom, bright yellow provides the surprise element – the color. Here, the zebra-striped, upholstered bed and a moody painting of death masks add an element of fantasy. Drake says the large, upholstered bed helps to anchor the room, and avoid the look of "an overly sweet confection". Photo by Eric Piasecki

Nice ... interesting art but not overpowering to the other elements in the room.

Placing mirrors behind twin night-table lamps will reflect light and help brighten a room. Good idea to incorporate, especially when choosing dark wall color.

This sultry Master Bedroom features deep charcoal walls and the brilliant contrasts of white. Design by Fieldstone Hill Design.

lime-yellow artwork...looks like curtains draped over canvas then painted with broad strokes with brush then spray painted. Love the burst of color and scale of this piece.

This room is gorgeous sans furniture! Add the big comfy bed? Priceless! the large windows help to brighten the space-but I'm worried about the nighttime. Would it be too dark? I'd love to see two little chairs and a cute end table rather than the couch-but none-the-less this room is beautiful.
