Not sure if it would matter to some students, but being this up front with students may help and definitely puts the ball in their court. Send these rules home to parents also. You know, the ones that think their child can do no wrong.

This is a good example of classroom rules. It has visual aids for students who cannot read or are ESL learners, so it would be useful for all age levels.

(G) "Classroom Rules" Have a discussion the first day about what it looks like to follow these rules. ie: be ready to learn- be in your seat, quiet and ready with all of your supplies and books you will need.
