Missy Franklin claimed her third gold medal of the Olympic Games on (Day 7) Friday, August 3 ,2012 destroying the field in the 200-meter backstroke to set a new world record. Franklin's time smashed the old record set by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry in 2009 by 0.75 seconds and continued the her spectacular run at these Games. Coventry could only manage sixth place as Franklin's star, which has shined throughout London 2012, rose another notch higher.
