Black and white quilt! Use fabric that will fray (i.e. double flannel), after all pieces are sewn together, the raw seams must each be clipped about every 1/2" and then the blanket washed/rinsed and dried in dryer to produce the most 'fuzzy' seams.
You could probably do this with a jelly roll (in color and in white) - sew two long strips together, cut them to make square blocks, and piece the square blocks together alternating horizontal and vertical orientations to get the zigzag effect.
Joan Glasgow Thought of you when I saw this! This is a Christmas Tree Rag Quilt... rag quilts are very easy to make and use up a lot of scraps of fabric you might have around. I'm going to try this very soon.
