She lost but was appointed by Republicans to numerous political posts. In 1969, President Nixon appointed her as a delegate to the UN. In 1974, President Ford appointed her as the US Ambassador to Ghana. She served as ambassador to Czechoslovakia under George H.W. Bush.

I loved (and still do!) watching old Shirley Temple movies. We would record them off TV onto VHS tapes. :)
