One of the first great books I read as an adult. It's really gripping and moving. There is a beautiful contrast between two stories, one of love and one of war. It's quite full on in the parts about World War One so not for the faint hearted or easily upset, you've been warned! An excellent read.

67 Books Every Geek Should Read to Their Kids Before Age 10 - I wouldn't read all these books to my kids, but it's a pretty good list. I'd also add a few, like The Great Brain books.
