    Baobab is the common name of a genus (Adansonia) with 8 species of trees native to Madagascar, mainland Africa & Australia. Also known as Bottle Trees, they typically store @ 300 liters of water! They can live over 1,000 years. This imposing & unusual tree is endemic to the island of Madagascar, where it's an endangered species threatened by the encroachment of agricultural land. Grandidiers baobabs have massive cylindrical trunks, up to 3 meters across, covered with smooth, reddish-grey bark.

    Baobab - the upside down tree. The Baobab tree is a strange looking tree that grows in low-lying areas in Africa and Australia. The Baobab is also called the upside-down tree because when bare of leaves, the spreading branches of the Baobab look like roots sticking up into the air, as if it had been planted upside-down. June 10 full length by GungFace enormous 15 metre tall baobab tree sculpture in Southbank, as part of the Festival of the World exhibition. Each ring is made by people and material from around the globe. I read up a little on its history - the baobab tree is the oldest living specimen in Africa, a symbol for meditation and community.
