Vancouver areas interactive map, one of the fantastic features of the city's official webpage. Select an area of the city to be routed to an entire page devoted to the culture, happenings, conditions of, and summary of that area. Regarding the city website as a whole, also reference the events section and Parks, Recreation & Culture section. The Lions Gate Bridge - Built in 1938 and named after "The Lions", a pair of mountain peaks north of Vancouver. A pair of cast concrete lions, designed by sculptor Charles Marega, were placed on either side of the south approach to the bridge in January, 1939. In 2005, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada. On clear sunny day, walk from downtown Vancouver, across the bridge, down Marine Drive to the Londsale Quay, then SeaBus it across the Inlet to where you started. The Best...

Donald's Market - Best Independent Grocery Store in Vancouver | Grocery and Organic Products - beats Whole Foods hands down. Mind you, the quality of their fresh meat is so-so. Everything else is fabulous! Free, but limited, street parking. Carmen works at the Hastings Street location...once you tell her your name she always remembers it. Really. She literally knows thousands of customer names. It's freaky.

European Delicatessen at Davie and Bute in Vancouver's Davie Village - Buy their Persian flat bread, warm it in the oven at home and dip it in their hummus, which is right up there with the best you will ever eat. A destination unto itself.

Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood, Florida

Downtown Costco - tired of schlepping to the burbs for your Costco fix? Borders Vancouver's International Village, Downtown, and Yaletown...with cheap underground parking ($2 for 2 hours). It is far less busy than your typical Costco, especially on a weekday evening. Great selection and it's on the Skytrain line. Costco-filled prescriptions are the cheapest in the city, and you don't need to be a member to use the pharmacy. What more do you need?

The Vancouver Sun for iPad - Vancouver's daily, award-winning, broadsheet newspaper since 1912. Read it daily to keep abreast of local news and other happening stories from around the world. I enjoy this paper, but have to admit that I'm still partial to the wide range of in-depth articles of the New York Times.

Boyle Farmers Market, County Roscommon, Ireland.

Au Comptoir - In Vancouver's Westside this classic French bistro has unpretentious French waiters and to die for cuisine. My mouth still waters in memory of the Salade Vercingétorix (baby gem lettuce, garlic vinaigrette, white anchovies, lemon, soft-poached egg, gruyere). Amazing!
