Russell Charles Means (Nov. 10, 1939 – Oct. 22, 2012) was an Oglala Sioux activist for the rights of Native American people, an actor, musician & author. He was active in international issues of indigenous peoples, including working with groups in Central & South America, and with the UN for recognition of their rights. He began acting with 1992's The Last of the Mohicans, at age 53. He released a CD in 1982, and wrote an autobiography in 1995. Andy Warhol painted 18 portraits of Means in 1976.
