Dorothy's Ruby Red Slippers (The Wizard of Oz)-One of my favorite movies(Of course, I am from Kansas after all).

What does Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and the conservatory trumpet student have in common? Hint: It has something to do with Dorothy's shoes. Remember that she had the power and ability to get where she wanted anytime she wished? She just failed to recognize that her ticket out of Oz was at her feet all along - those red sparkly shoes right there in her possession. Unfortunately, unlike Dorothy, we need more than the wave of an angel's starry wand, or an emotional wish to instantly arrive at our destination. A tough mission is involved, an arduous journey not unlike her assignment to capture the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West. The road is treacherous and full of obstacles for sure. We might even have enough courage, heart and brains for the task, but what will take us there? Where are our "magic shoes"? (HARP GLISSANDI) Why, your ticket out of the conservatory can actually be found right there in your own music case. Yes, it has been there all along! You needn't have looked anywhere else! The pathway is The Yellow Brick Road on which all great trumpet players must travel. I'm afraid there are simply no shortcuts. The secret to greatness is found in a very ordinary but very special book. You have had it with you every day, but have not known it or used it properly. You must play it correctly however and do exactly what it says, for it has the power to make you into a great trumpet player. Ignore this book and its instructions, and you will remain captive in the Emerald City from which there is no escaping. Your "red shoes" is your very own book entitled Technical Studies by Herbert Clarke. You are now free to use it and find your heart's desire.
#1 Dorothy´s ruby slippers. Actually they were described as silver shoes, but with Technicolor rising and it´s raving possibility to make colours shine on the silver screen, the MGM creators decided to make them ruby red. I really belive that every little girl wants to wear a pair those at some point in her life ;) #2 a Wizard of Oz tribute for the Fashion Week 2008 in New York where designers such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin recreated Dorothy’s ruby slippers using Swarovski crystals. #3 speaking of the colour red, shoes and technicolor... The Red Shoes (1948) an interesting film. visionary in its setting & background pictures, which tend to transform in quite wonderful dream-like landscapes. nevertheless I was quite puzzled after I´ve finishes watching this technicolour feast of bursting colours and couldn´t help myself but thinking of another motion picture. one that made quite an impression on the world audience lately...speaking of Black Swan and striking similarities between these two films. #4 "There´s no place like home. There´s no place like home. There´s no place like home" found on Flikr pssst!..guess what? I love the socks :) #5 Blood Red Shoes- Heartsink Album -Fire Like This #6 stitching as found on Myrtle & Eunice & last but not least...#7 which brings me to the last point: how to make your own pair of ruby slippers? (such as heels, ballerinas or Mary Jane's) red paint, glitter, sequins hot glue gun step 1:find the perfect pair of shoes. (just bought this pair on ebay. lets hope my determination to turn them into Ruby slippers does not vanish by the time I get them.) step 2:paint both shoes red. the type of paint to use depends on the fabric content of the shoes. of course it is quite easier if your perfect pair is already red. for once it makes them a little more perfect & the whole procedure a little less messy ;) step 3:cover one small section of the shoe in glue. do this in smaller sections so that the glue doesn’t dry before you’ve had a chance to add the glitter. step 4:cover the glue immediately with red glitter & shake off any excess glitter. continue gluing section by section adding glitter. let them dry. step 5:hot glue sequins on after the shoes have dried & add sequins where there are gaps in the glitter. ..**************.. There´s no place like home & there are no shoes like Ruby Slippers!
THE original Ruby Slippers worn by Judy Garland as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz are coming to London. The iconic shoes will feature in the upcoming Hollywood Costume exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum – the first time that they have ever been on public display outside the US.

This is one of the scenes that scared me to death in the Wizard of Oz (the other main one was when Dorothy was locked up in the wicked witch's tower and she is "talking" with her Auntie Em in the huge crystal ball when all of a sudden the witch appears .... brrrrrrrr)
The Wicked Witch of the East is definitely responsible for my obsession with black and white striped stockings. Who can ever forget this iconic movie scene from the beloved Wizard of Oz?

Dorothy’s hand sequinned ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz" movie in 1939 were designed by the original king of glamour Adrian.
Wizard of Oz-----the famous Ruby slippers!! Have a tiny reproduction pair I wear as a pendant!
"I always associated Dorothy’s ruby slippers as a symbol for inner strength, confidence, determination..." "I also think they’re about the journey – learning, trying new things, experiencing highs and lows and stepping out of your comfort zone. The one we go on just to find out that we already had what we were searching for (or to quote Glinda, “You had the power all along, my dear”). Be it confidence, commitment, willpower or even just a kick-ass attitude!"...cont.

Unfortunately, the inventor dies before he can replace the temporary scissors he gave Edward for hands, leaving him scared and alone. Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. Photo: Virgil Apger/Fondation John Kobal. "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!"—The Wicked Witch of the West. I have witches on the brain this week (see yesterday's post) so naturally I am reminded of perhaps the greatest witch of the silver screen—the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz (1939). Margaret Hamilton was amazing in the role that she truly made her own. Who can ever forget that green face and pointed nose or that cackling laugh? In real life Hamilton was a former kindergarden teacher who adored children and animals. She got asked so many times by little kids why she was mean to Dorothy that she appeared on an episode of Mister Roger's Neighborhood to explain that it was all pretend. I always felt a little bad for the Wicked Witch. But those flying monkeys of hers? Scary. Have a wonderful weekend my pretties.
