Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter: This book is EVERYTHING!! Ali is a fantastic, snarky, zombie-butt-kicking character and Cole is a bad boy who needs a hug and a punch to the face. The author truly created a new lore for zombies (as spirits, not just dead bodies) that is fascinating and creative.

Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles#1) by Gena Showalter Publisher: Harlequin Teen Genre: Fantasy and Young Adult Release Date: September 25, 2012 Pages: 404 (Hardcover)   She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever. Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone. Her father was right. The monsters are real…. To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies…. Alice in Zombieland is a tough novel to review since it’s for the most part, a well written book that easily held my attention yet still left me feeling extremely disappointed. I was left disappointed because there isn’t much of the classic weaved into the story except for a few chapter titles, the white rabbit and Alice being all alone (for a while). Don’t be fooled by that title because this is not a retelling of any sorts. There is no mad hatter or tea parties or any of those things. If there were those things, I think that many people would have enjoyed this a lot more than they had (I for sure know I would have). From the beginning when Ali meets Cole and his gang, there is this rushing force of insta-lust that is so incredible. From the start, they get visions and all of that fun stuff that makes things sort of unbelievable. Speaking of the romance, Cole is that typical bad boy with his temper and hard edges, etc. Up until the very end, I felt bored reading about him and his hot and cold feelings towards Ali. Gena Showalter has the ability to captivate me with her writing, I just can’t get enough of it! Despite all of the boring romance, I did find the action with the zombies entertaining and fun. The zombies are even human but spirits and I was not expecting something like that! I was expecting a lot more from this book, especially for it to have a lot more of the classic in it. But it’s still a very fun read that has a lot of action and more than a few zombie slaying scenes. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys zombie novels, great writing, and those typical bad boys that seem to be taking over the YA world. 3 Clouds For quotes from this book, click here.
