In northwestern Spain, Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia. The oldest part of the town is completely dominated by Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles of design. The area also produced the first guide book in the world in the 12th century; the Codex Calixtinus was created to offer guidance to pilgrims. It outlined the route that was most followed which is the Camino de Santiago and its many historical buildings on the way.
